The Wild North: Northern Ibiza Yacht Charters

Ibiza - Portinatx

Northern Ibiza Yacht Charter

A Northern Ibiza yacht charter explores the island at its most peaceful and untamed, where pine-covered hills descend towards hidden coves, traditional fishermen’s shelters, rocky islets and intensely clear Mediterranean water.

The route begins around Port de Sant Miquel and Benirràs before continuing east through Es Pas de s’Illa des Bosc, Cala Xarraca, S’Illot des Renclí and Cala Xuclar. These compact bays reveal a quieter side of Ibiza, with natural shorelines, simple seafood restaurants and countless places to swim away from the island’s larger resorts.

Farther east, Portinatx provides the north coast’s principal resort base, surrounded by three beaches and several smaller coves. Beyond it, the coastline becomes increasingly dramatic around Punta Moscarter, Cala d’en Serra and Cala de Sant Vicent, where high cliffs and forested headlands frame the island’s remote northeastern corner.

Why Northern Ibiza Is a Perfect Yacht Charter Area

Northern Ibiza is ideal for guests seeking swimming, snorkelling, natural scenery and slower days onboard. Instead of moving between major marinas and nightlife destinations, the itinerary revolves around intimate anchorages, coastal walks, seafood lunches and extended afternoons in transparent water.

Port de Sant Miquel provides a practical starting point with restaurants, watersports and a broad family-friendly beach. Nearby, the Can Marçà caves offer an unusual shore excursion through an ancient underground environment of galleries, rock formations and subterranean pools within the cliffs above the bay.

Benirràs, Cala Xarraca and the coves around Portinatx demonstrate the variety found within a relatively short cruising distance. Benirràs forms a naturally enclosed bay beside the Cap Bernat islet, Cala Xarraca is surrounded by smaller swimming corners and Portinatx combines calm anchorages with restaurants, watersports and three separate beaches.

The northern coastline is generally more exposed and has fewer substantial harbours than southern Ibiza. The captain must therefore shape the route around wind direction, swell and available shelter, particularly near Punta Moscarter and the northeast-facing coves. This flexibility is rewarded with some of Ibiza’s most tranquil and visually dramatic cruising.

Northern Ibiza Top Highlights

Port de Sant Miquel: Begin inside a broad northern bay with a family-friendly beach, watersports, waterfront restaurants and easy access to several of Ibiza’s most memorable natural and cultural attractions.

Can Marçà Caves: Step ashore beneath the cliffs of Port de Sant Miquel to explore a remarkable cave system containing chambers, stalactites, stalagmites and underground water features.

Torre des Molar: Climb towards a historic coastal watchtower positioned on a high cliff between Port de Sant Miquel and Benirràs, with panoramic views over Illa Murada, S’Illa des Bosc and the surrounding sea.

Benirràs & Cap Bernat: Anchor inside a naturally enclosed west-facing bay protected by forested hills, then swim beneath the distinctive Cap Bernat rock formation or dine beside the beach.

Es Pas de s’Illa des Bosc: Discover a narrow natural connection between Ibiza and a small offshore island, with one sheltered strand facing Port de Sant Miquel and another opening towards the sea.

S’Illot des Renclí: Pause beside a tiny sand-and-rock cove surrounded by gentle cliffs, traditional fishermen’s cabins and pine woodland, with peaceful swimming corners along the neighbouring shore.

Cala Xarraca: Cruise into a quiet natural inlet of coarse sand, rocks and clear blue water, then explore the smaller coves and secluded swimming spots hidden around the surrounding headlands.

Cala Xuclar: Escape into a compact cove known for its crystal water, rocky seabed, snorkelling opportunities, fishermen’s shelters and relaxed seafood dining beside the beach.

Portinatx: Anchor within a northern resort formed around S’Arenal Gros, S’Arenal Petit and Port de Portinatx, combining fine white sand, shallow water, restaurants, watersports and family-friendly facilities.

Es Portitxol & Punta Moscarter: Follow a rugged coastline of cliffs, pine forest, sea caves and rocky formations towards the striped Moscarter lighthouse, one of the tallest lighthouse structures in the Balearic Islands.

Cala d’en Serra: Enter a secluded northeast-facing cove enclosed by vegetation and cliffs, with transparent water, fishermen’s cabins and a small neighbouring inlet suited to peaceful swimming.

Cala de Sant Vicent: Finish inside a wide natural bay of fine sand and gradually deepening water, surrounded by restaurants, shops and forested headlands at Ibiza’s northeastern edge.
